Tuquwan Smith is an educator in the greater Newark, NJ area. He has worked with inner-city youth for 18 years in the areas of education, he has coached basketball at the high school and collegiate level, and is a youth advocate.
With over 18 years of coaching and teaching experience, Tuquwan entered his first season as head boy’s basketball coach at University Academy Charter High School and was a teacher there as well. He is currently a proud educator in independent education.
Tuquwan has a passion for motivating students to achieve their full potential in academics and sports. Moreover, establishing strong relationships with parents and developing a well-rounded student. He specializes in urban schools with a background of over 18 years of teaching.
Over his career, he has had the opportunity to educate, coach, and mentor hundreds of youth interested in the game of basketball, a game that he has always loved and played himself. His ability to work as a visionary, convey clear communication habits, and making himself accessible to his student’s lives both personally and educationally are all skills that he believes add value.
Tuquwan earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from New Jersey City University.
Youth empowerment through education and youth mentorship is a huge part of his life and he is always seeking ways in which he can use his gifts and talents to support and further independent education for young people.
