Lorri Key Barrett, LCSW/MPH is a licensed clinical social worker in the greater Houston community. Her 20 years of experience allowed her to work in Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, and Florida in managed care, community health, and college counseling centers and psychiatric facilities.
Lorri’s most fulfilling experience thus far was the development of a faith-based counseling center in Memphis, TN. The goal was to reduce the stigma Black Americans feel when seeking mental health counseling. Highlights include having HIV testing within the church, discussing sexual abuse and divorce recovery along making counseling an option in the church while keeping their faith. Her personal interests are increasing support among faith-based communities for mental health services and identifying opportunities for collaboration. She serves as a lead therapist with Bay Point Behavioral Health providing therapy to BIPOC populations and started her private practice Alignment Counseling, PLLC with the focus of caring for Black Women. In her spare time, she speaks on topics related to mental health and BIPOC and topics range from “Saving Your Last Nerve: Black Women and Mental Health” to “If you Can’t Beat Em, Join Em: Collaborating with faith-based centers to improve mental health care.” Lorri recently completed Brene’ Brown’s Dare To Lead certification, EMDR, and #Iamremarkable training which encourages women leaders to become more courageous and take up space in the workplace. Lorri is also a board-approved Social Work Supervisor who finished her studies at Tulane University with a dual degree in Social Work and Public Health. She is currently serving as a Walden University mentor to psychiatric nurses who plan to work with BIPOC populations. She also enjoys traveling, reading, yoga, and spending time with her family.
